Download Race Instructions (.pdf)

The Dillon Snowkite Open will consist of 4 days of competition and freeriding. Including a regatta style racing format, Long distance (winduro), and freestyle / free ride sessions and a demo / trainer kite day. There will be a series with 3 fleet races in a regatta format (races will be scheduled for the most consistent forecasted wind). Plus a long distance race to test the competitors endurance and all out speed. Leaving plenty of time just to let loose and do a little freestyle!

This Year we are doing something new for the long distance race/winduro. It will be a combined Pro/Am relay race. This is how it will work: Each amateur competitor will pick a Pro's name out of a hat and and they will then be paired for the race. Skiers and snowboards will be mixed together. The Amateur will start the race and kite downwind approximately 5 miles. Once they they reach the down wind mark their Pro kites back up wind to the finish. The pro may coach their partner at the start and help anytime during the downwind leg, but by not affecting any other team. Or wait at the down wind mark with fresh legs until their partner arrives. the team who's Pro finishes first will be the winner. Transportation back to the start/finish will be provided for the amateurs who kite downwind and do not wish to kite back.

Freestyle will be a judged event by a select few of your peers, skiers judge snowboarders and snowboarders judge skiers. This year we may even have some inflatable features to add to the standard kicker.

Friday and Saturday will be open to the Regatta 3 race series. The courses will be set with windward and Leeward marks and on average may take 15-25 minutes each. Sunday will be kept as a backup race day if there is not enough wind the previous days.

Sunday will be kept open. The goal will be to have day set aside for kite companies and sponsors to Demo gear to consumers, trainer kite demos and introduce new people to our sport.

  • Trophies (nice ones) will be given out for 1st-3rd place in all divisions and categories.
  • All competitors will receive an event shirt and other swag. (only the first 50 to register will get them)
